Illinois PA 100-0574 is the first criminal law in the U.S. that identifies postpartum depression & postpartum psychosis as “mitigating factors” in sentencing!
Attorney Barry Lewis and I worked together to usher in the first postpartum criminal law in the nation, IL PA 100-0574.
Lewis and I received the 2018 Maternal Mental Health Award for our work in Policy and Advocacy.
Lewis and I are co-authoring a book on Postpartum Illnesses, Advocacy and Criminal Law, to be published in January 2020 by Rowman & Littlefield.
Presentations scheduled, at Postpartum Support International in Portland, Oregon in June 2019 on Perinatal Legal Issues and the ground-breaking Illinois law PA 100-0574.
With presentations and our upcoming book, we hope to encourage similar legislation in other states.. helping women who suffered from postpartum psychosis and postpartum depression.
