Do you believe in Destiny?
I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of destiny. I’m not necessarily talking about finding your soul mate.. but more about how things follow a certain direction in our life whether we like it or not.
Some people believe that we are driving that ship and we are the only ones in control of the direction that we go. These individuals chart a course for their life and as long as things follow their plan, all is well. However, when things don’t go as they want or had planned.. they resist their circumstances and keep pushing to redirect their ship to get things back on the course they had charted. Sometimes these people experience frustration and stress as they refuse to accept the circumstances of their life.. feeling like it’s not right or the way they want it to be.
I find I belong to a different group that believes in some force that we can call “destiny”. As with those previously mentioned, I also set a plan for my life and work to accomplish certain goals and a specific direction. However, when things aren’t moving in the direction I thought best, that’s when I find myself aligned with the “destiny group”.
Those people who believe in destiny, tend to believe that we are carried by unseen forces .. which we may call by any number of names.. but ultimately these individuals believe we are on a path and that rather than self-directing our course that there is some predetermined course which we are meant to follow. It’s not to say they don’t have life plans but rather than resisting the way things are, they accept that there is some purpose, even if yet unknown and unseen. It may be they have faith that they are moving in the way that they are meant to.. even if they don’t understand the direction at the present moment.
I find this way of thinking helpful as it allows me to be less frustrated with the way things are. I find I stop resisting my circumstances and feel I’m willing to relinquish control and allow these forces of destiny to drive my ship.
